Grow your network in an innovative online format.

Doctor of Education

Northeastern University is built on more than 125 years of experience in real-world learning, allowing you to not only implement your learning right away, but also bring change-driven strategies to your workplace and community. In our innovative Doctor of Education program, you’ll also undertake intensive weekend residencies that bring what you’ve learned into deeper focus.

The EdD program is an online degree designed to support you as a learner, working professional, and scholar-practitioner. It is rooted in the Graduate School of Education’s mission to cultivate leaders who, through lifelong experiential learning, help create a more just and equitable society.

In this program, you’ll:

  • Customize your studies with a concentration in transformative school leadership, innovative teaching and learning, higher education administration, integrative studies, or workplace learning.
  • Grow your professional network through in-person residencies in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; or Seattle.
  • Work on a dissertation in practice, which connects your studies to a compelling educational challenge of your choice.
  • Participate in two on-site residencies to acquire essential skills for career advancement and engage with faculty and peers to strengthen your foundational knowledge of the program.
  • Learn from industry experts and faculty members who still work outside the classroom, bringing you a stronger understanding of current research, trends, and employer needs.

"When I realized I could do this—still work, be with my family, and be remote—it was really enticing to me. My advisor and professors at Northeastern have been really amazing and really supportive. I’ve already gained a lot of respect from my school district.” —Mary Rose Steele, Doctor of Education, ‘23
