Experiential Master of Science in Biotechnology (1-Year)

To capitalize on the explosive growth and career opportunities in the biotechnology field, Northeastern is excited to offer a 1-year Experiential Master of Science in Biotechnology on our Boston campus. Boston is a hotspot for biotechnology with 1000+ biotechnology companies located in the Boston area.

In just one year, you can earn your master’s degree through this uniquely Northeastern, intensive, work-based, experience-driven program. In the classroom, you’ll learn the must-have skills to thrive in today’s biotech workplace, with industry experts serving as your faculty.

You’ll hone those skills through several experiential-learning opportunities—including two signature lab courses, a co-op, and a Capstone project—allowing you to build your resumé as you learn. At the end of your year, you’ll be armed with a portfolio of your work and be ready to begin or grow your career faster.

Need more flexibility?
We also offer a MS in Biotechnology program that can be part-time, either in Boston or online for a duration of 2-3 years for students that need more flexibility and would like to spread out the coursework.

Work-based learning

Your curriculum includes a semester-long lab course with a 1-week residency and several experience-driven projects throughout the program. Lab courses leverage single-use bioreactors, mass spectrometry, and other industry-relevant technologies.

During the program, you’ll tap into our biotechnology network of alumni and industry partners that include leading organizations like Genzyme, Biogen, Pfizer, Takeda, Amgen, and Novartis. Students who complete the program will be able to innovate and lead in research, managerial, and technical positions in the biotech industry.
