“I gravitated to Northeastern because it was the only program that offered the duality of law and policy—where it wasn’t just law and wasn’t just policy. I felt that duality would present more than one option for me to further my career.”—

Cherron Payne, Doctor of Law and Policy ’20

What program format is right for you?

We offer two different learning formats based on professional experience and need for flexibility.

Executive DLP Format

The Doctor of Law and Policy Executive Program is a cohort learning model based in Boston for professionals with at least 10 years of experience. Residencies in Boston take place every other month and offer students the advantages of interactive learning without the restrictions of a traditional doctoral program. Through this approach, students have the opportunity to complete their coursework and doctoral thesis in 24 months.

More flexible DLP Format

The Doctor of Law and Policy program also offers a flexible option, designed for professionals with at least 3 years of experience. It is a hybrid format with classes meeting quarterly on our Seattle and Charlotte campuses, and online learning throughout the rest of the year allowing students’ the choice and option to take classes at their own pace.

"I had been looking for a doctoral program for several years that would not require me to move, was built specifically with the demands of a professional career in mind, allowed me to focus on a topic that was relevant, and enable me to take my career to the next level."
