Master of Science in Environmental Science & Policy

The Master of Science in Environmental Science and Policy, a joint program between the College of Science's Marine and Environmental Science Dept and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities’ School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs, provides interdisciplinary training and environmental problem-solving expertise to the next generation of environmental professionals.

In this program, students:

  • Have access to expert faculty in both colleges giving them a broad range of learning options in areas such as: public policy, environmental planning, ecological economics, leadership, food security and sustainability.
  • Can opt to participate in a 6-month paid co-op in the field, providing work experience and allowing them to apply classroom theory to practice.
  • Willl be prepared for a growing number of environmental careers in both the private sector and nonprofits (Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund) and public sector (local, state, federal, and international government bodies).

Flexible learning formats


This program provides great flexilbility including the option to complete it in just three semesters and evening and online classes. There is also no formallized research requirement, but research opportunities are available if interested.

Experience-powered learning


Northeastern combines rigorous academics with experiential learning to prepare students for real world engineering challenges. Through our six month co-op program, students will gain industry experience, while helping to finance their education.
