Join Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Science’s cybersecurity experts to discuss privacy concerns related to generative AI. Faculty members, including Laura Edelson, Tianshi Li, and PhD student Johanna Gunawan, will discuss the latest issues and their work in this area. This free talk will be held at the Northeastern University campus in Arlington, Virginia.

Assistant Professor
Laura is motivated by the global challenge posed by misinformation. She aims to make social media platforms safer and more beneficial for users.

She has conducted large-scale analyses of online paid political content on multiple platforms such as Facebook, Google, and X, and developed methods to help detect inauthentic content.

Visiting Assistant Professor
Tianshi’s research interests include usable privacy, security in mobile apps, and novel privacy issues in human–large language model (LLM) interactions.

She has previously worked at Google, where she helped create a series of integrated development environment plugins to help developers build mobile apps with native privacy support.

PhD Candidate
Johanna’s research interests meet at the intersection of privacy, policy, consumer advocacy, and human–computer interaction, she has most recently focused her work on dark patterns and manipulative interfaces, and the legal implications of their use.

She is a prior Align master’s student with work experience at Rapid7 and Akamai Technologies.
